Is a hotdog a sandwich and why or why not? Please provide strong reasoning.

lonely potato NO THE BUN IS CONNECTED THEREFORE IT CANNOT BE A SANDWICH BECAUSE THE THEY ARE NOT TWO SEPARATE PIECES. IF ANYTHING ITS A TACO.
Ben Dover It’s not a sandwich. Sandwiches go bread-stuff-bread vertically, hotdogs go bread-weenie-bread horizontally so therefore no a hot dog is not a sandwich. I hope you know where I’m going with this
Joanna C makuchi No cuz it’s not. The buns don’t separate and it is it’s own category. A hot dog is a hot dog. You don’t say “hey can I have a hot dog sandwich”. You just say “can I have a hot dog”. I’m right, your wrong and that’s that🤷🏻‍♀️.
Carlos Dabon It is a sandwich because it is bread and something in the middle. SAND means Yellow in an ancient language and the bread is yellow. The person who made the hotdog also made the sandwich.
Sparking Water Based upon thorough research, I have come to a conclusion that a hotdog is indeed a sandwich. A sandwich is yummy goodness between two slices of bread. One can argue that the hotdog is composed of one bun, which therefore means it is not a sandwich. However, there are many sandwiches that consist of a bun like that of the hotdog. Let's take a look at the sausage sandwich. It is composed of a bun just like the hotdog, and has a piece of sausage and desired condiments inside this bun. Therefore, the classic American hotdog is indeed considered a sandwich.
livy smith I mean kind of but no. Even though there is buns that could be considered the "bread" on the sides one of the sides is closed. In a sandwich is one of the sides sealed? No, and if you did that to a sandwich everything would fall out of the other side.
Katie Yes, a hotdog most certainly is a sandwich. I think that a burger would be considered a sandwich, at it is sometimes placed in sandwich sections on a menu. A hotdog is very similar, but is only more stretched out, and is eaten sideways as apposed to have the bread on the top and bottom. Either way, it is meat between two pieces of bread, which qualifies to be a sandwich.
Anonymous NOOOOO. NOT A SANDWICH. YOU ARE THE DEVIL IF YOU THINK THAT. a sandwich has deli such as turkey. a hotdog has a hotdog inside which is like everything(if you know)
dristi A hotdog is absolutely a sandwich as proven by a dictionary definition that "a sandwich is an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal", therefore a hotdog is equivalent to that of a sandwich since it is a food item that consists of meat surrounded by two bread slices or halves.
Aishanee No because the bread part isn’t separated into two pieces.
quarantineKWEEN i mean, yeah, it’s something placed in between two pieces of bread. what, is there another definition of a sandwich?
Krystal no. to consider a hot dog a sandwich would be utterly stupid. they do have different names, after all. if I wanted a hotdog I wouldn’t order a sandwich.
Tophat Yes, because a sandwich is any dish wherein the bread serves as a container, or wrapper, to another type of food; according to Wikipedia.
archie not really because you can put a variety of things in a sandwich and it has two separate pieces of bread and it's vertical and a hot dog is none of those
Dishwasher A hotdog is most definitely not a sandwich because it does not have two buns or slices. Now I know that it has the two bread sides and the meat in the middle, but that is one peice of bread that is attached in the middle at the bottom, so it's not two buns because really it is technically one. So it's not a sandwich.
Siddhi No....... because
